Resources

Here are some sites I found useful in learning HTML, XHTML, and Dreamweaver that I hope you'll also find useful:

Web Pages That Suck

When learning how to make websites, it's easy and normal to make mistakes. But sometimes people just don't care or try hard enough. Or they don't care how bad it looks, if they simply throw it up, people will visit. One way I find interesting to learn how to do better is to look at other people's mistakes.

Website Tips

This site is just one of many which have tutorials and other resources for learning web design. The front page's use of brown and tan really looks appealing and gives off the impression of an academic setting. I really recommend this one.

The Slacker's Guide To HTML

Are you a slacker? Do you take learning things slowly to really ensure you get the hang of it? Do you not learn as quickly or easily as others? This one's for you.

HTML Lists

Having problems keeping your lists working? Forget how to code them properly? (Note I said PROPERLY, not just enough to make em work!) This lesson will help you out. It even features a video at the bottom that you can watch if you need to.

Non-Dithering Colors In Browsers

When desiring to keep things looking nice even on old machines, look no further than this page. Written by Lynda Weinman, the publisher of our text, it explains how she helped design ways to use colors so that pages look right. Definitely worth a read, even if you don't plan to use a lot of colors.

HTML Goodies

This one's been around for a LONG time. I remember reading this site more than 10 years ago when I first got curious about web design. The fact that it's still around speaks volumes about its helpfulness. Plenty of tutorials and easy-to-learn terminology makes this a must-visit.

HTML Writer's Guild

Another site that's been around forever and frequently visited by yours truly. They had, at one time, newsletters you could subscribe to. I don't know if they have them anymore, but this is another site loaded with tutorials one should check out!

W3Schools Online Web Tutorials

One can never have enough tutorial sites to recommend. This one is special, largely due to content I rarely see on other sites (if they even have it). That feature is quizzes. Yes, QUIZZES. And ones you can take over and over and over to help master the material. This one should be in every designer's bookmarks!

Learn HTML and CSS

Okay, I couldn't resist just ONE more tutorial site. This one doesn't seem to look as fancy as the others, but it'll do the trick. Great use of the left-side navigation, too.

Web Design Resources

Gotta conclude my list with a nod to our instructor, Viola Bain. Viola has put together a really nice site with organized links and a down-to-earth layout that makes you want to click the links. As such, it belongs in my list!
