------------------------------FTP--------------------------------------
I've seen many inquiries about an anonymous ftp archive for the
stories that appear in alt.startrek.creative. As others have
mentioned, I maintain an archive on ftp.cis.ksu.edu (129.130.10.80) in
the directory /pub/Startrek/stories. All files are compressed using
the UNIX LZW ".Z" compression used by the "compress" and "uncompress"
programs. For non-UNIX systems, there are sourcess and binaries
available to handle files in this format on various archive sites.
If you still cannot find a program to handle UNIX compressed files, use the
archive mail server described below.

If you find a story that I've missed, especially any of the ones that
appeared early in the life of this group or in the rec.arts.startrek.*
groups, mail it to me (jfy@cis.ksu.edu) or upload it to /pub/upload on
the archive site.

If you have any contributions to the archive, suggestions, etc. you
may also email them to me.
-----------------------------Mail--------------------------------------
For all those unfortunates who don't have Internet ftp access, I've
setup a mailserver to provide access to the archives on
ftp.cis.ksu.edu.

This mailserver can be contacted via mail one of the following
addresses:

...!rutgers!depot!mailserver (UUCP)
mailserver@cis.ksu.edu (Internet)

The server accepts commands given in the body of the mail messages;
help is available with the command "help".

A listing of the files in
the story archive may be obtained by "dir -l /pub/Startrek/stories".

Since the story archive consists of UNIX compressed files, they must
be uuencoded before they are sent on their way. To specify this mode,
use the command "encode uuencode" To retrieve the files, use the
"send" command (ex: send /pub/Startrek/stories/Bestseller.Z).

If you have a system which cannot handle UNIX compressed files, you may use
the "uncompress" filter ("encode uncompress")
which will send you the uncompressed (but not uuencoded) version of the file.

Here is an example mail message:

% Mail mailserver@cis.ksu.edu
Subject: request
help
encode uue
send /pub/Startrek/stories/Bestseller.Z
^D
%

Please note that this is completely experimental and is not bug free.
Questions and problems about this mailserver may be directed to
"mailserver-reply@cis.ksu.edu".
